The New York Draft Riot was a violent uprising that took place in New York City from July 13 to July 16, 1863, during the American Civil War. It is considered one of the deadliest civil disturbances in U.S. history.

The riot was triggered by the federal draft law, part of the Enrollment Act of 1863, which required men to be conscripted into the Union Army. Wealthy individuals could pay $300 to hire a substitute, leading to resentment among the working-class, mostly Irish immigrants, who couldn't afford to buy their way out.

Ideal for: Civil War collectors, antique newspaper enthusiasts, vintage home decor, Father's Day gifts, history teachers, and Americana-themed displays.
